Sculpture and Perormance Video

(Tari - Performance Video)

Tari’ refers to the blades attached to the feet of birds used in cockfighting and bloodsport.

The sculptural work is a set of sculpted nails, mounted on cast hands. These metaphorical claws symbolize the beauty, power, and empathy we inherit from our ancestors and loved ones.

In the accompanying Performance Video, the artist wears these nails as claws and performs a dance with their hands. The movements are based on the act of embracing one’s self and utilizing movements unique to the artist’s body - having inherited hypermobile joints.

In contrast with Ancestral Trauma, this work embraces our intangible Ancestral Gifts. The beautiful traits we inherited from those before us that we often forget.
